I’ve added a possible order of audio clips – they seem to make a sequential audio transmission. Not quite sold on the order yet, but some are certain, with breaks within words or sentences.
And I’m not yet sold on the ‘thankyou’ word not having an “ank” sound in it. To me, the “a” is very clear in its sound. A digital voice wouldn’t muddle that sound with something as different as “ine” or a long “e”, for example… bah.

again, that’s just a reference to the same universe. ie, following that to other locations exploring the halflife mythology is beyond the scope of this article. Here, the video reers to Black Mesa. It refers to quite a number of other Lost/HL content. I mean actual WITB content being directly affected by external references. Consider it ‘fan fiction’, using existing content to enhance the story. It doesn’t mean Half-life is officially connected or Valve is endorsing this project. Right now at least.

Its certainly possible. If anyone has an old CueCat or some other bar code reader you could give it a scan. This same sign is seen in the movie.
I also noticed something else. In the Newscast. The first one with the 10m lead-core walls was filmed at 1:11 local time. The second clip was filmed before hand, at 1:04 local time. This means the first clip was filmed after the second clip. A quick research reveled that this was during Daylight Savings Time. (-1 GMT) This is consistent as DST in Netherlands runs from March to October. While this may be irreverent it is something to consider.

I just watched the new vid from IGN all the way through. My thoughts:
It’s got new sounds to it, and some new effects. Not much has changed about the video itself.
It has a ‘character track’ which means you can hear the guy pant as he’s being attacked.
It opens differently, and it’s still labeled as a test film.
It’s still labeled Half-Life: is this IGN mistaking the video, or labeling it as it’s told?

As you probably already know the movie was shot in the Dutch city of Nijmegen, the city where Tim Smit is also based.
Now the picture of the research facility on the Babel Industries website is in fact a picture of an existing power station in Nijmegen. It is a bit modified though but it’s certainly the same building.

I really dont think it is a PS3 Exclusive for a few reasons:

Found this artical on Wikipedia. Dennis Nedry was the Computer networker in Jurassic Park. He ended up steeling embryos from the park for payment. Sound familiar. Perhaps we have some clues in the movie.

Considering the theme of Babel Research having towers as their logo, and the tower where the singularity occurs, I’d suggest that this is in fact not an eye, but a map around a circular construction, with roads leading to and from it.
This also helps explain what the arrow would mean – an indication of an entrance point, or some other property of that route, perhaps?

looking at anti.css and pro.css, in Anti.css there’s a reference to “Paine”, so I googled “what’s in the box paine” and an extract from “Dune” (the book and movie) came up, where a character asks a guy to put his hand in a box, and he asks:

and then she says “Pain.”
at the end of the scene, she also finishes saying:
“Can’t go around maiming potential humans. There’re those who’d give a pretty for the secret of this box, though.”
Might be completely irrelevant, but also might be giving us a clue about looking for the secret of the box.. maybe.. we’ll never find it.. and maybe it’s only the pain of having spent all this time to find it that remains..

An additional bit of trivia. The movie referred to the towers building a singularity being initiated. The singularity is what is referred to as the potential mass within a black hole after a massive star collapse. I say potential because this is theory. However the theory continues to say that mass, if compressed tight enough, will have the potential to prevent light from escaping.
Additionally, another theory states that black holes are created in our atmosphere all the time. The new Hadron Collider is supposed to test this theory.
The raises the question to the towers, where they say they are grabbing energy from the air according to Babel Industries web site.

I think we’ll just have to wait this out just like with Cloverfield. There were so many links and “connections” to other sites such as Ethan Haas when it turned out that there was absolutely NO connection. I think that’s what’s going on here. There are links that take you absolutely nowhere except to more links which still keep you guessing. The maker of the video has talked about a film and we’ll just have to wait.
I just want to point out, that the big gold domed building in the news feed on whatsinthebox.nl, is the Georgia State Capitol building in Atlanta, GA, USA… that is extremely random, and i only live about a mile away from it. also, you can look on google maps at it and see the interstate behind the capitol. do you think that this has any connection?
So here’s something interesting, if not entirely helpful.
One of the tricks that was used on the Halo 2 “ilovebees” ARG was to hide text in the coding of the image files. To read it, you’d download the image and rename it as a .txt file. I tried doing that to some of the images at Babel Research. There’s no hidden text, but there are Adobe Photoshop timestamps. All of the graphics on the Babel website are timestamped at various hours throughout the day of April 5th, 2009.
However, I also tried this on the red “?” box ( http://www.whatsinthebox.nl/riseofthedirtnappers/02fe8bf0.jpg ) at the bottom of Rise of the Dirtnappers poster page, and it’s timestamped October 21st, 2007. Evidently, this project has been a long time in the making.
No one seems to have mentioned the religious significance of Babel, its logo is all about the towers and in the bible wasn’t the tower of babel a tower that they tried to build up to the level of god but crashed down destroying everything? Maybe I’m just stating the obvious.

So, me and I my brother have been working all morning on the box and we’ve found a half substantial link to The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy. August 16th 2008 is a Thursday. All the geeks out there will know that the day the world is destroyed by Vogons (accuses my possible misspelling) so, maybe the password or a way of finding more hints towards the password is hidden in The Guide! I am absolutely certain this whole thing is not set in The Guide universe,because it is completely the wrong style. But a possible clue could be there. Also Babelfish, babel research!
Some other stuff we found was that the surgical mask at the begging shows there is some kind of disease going around, along with the guards wearing gas masks. One of the stories seen at the bottom of the screen is “Millions feared dead” which can be heard when you click the left section of the box. This shows that the story could be linked to something before the august 6th incident. Possibly my theoretical disease.

There is a thing i want to say. In the Mythbuster film, with the phonebook, a reference to the box web site appeares at 3:49 – 3:50, right after the slowmotion part of the book ripping. olso the referrence appeares at the end…… i want to kow how to get to the part with the box….i can’t get past the red circle and the field where to write the code….how do i get past them? any help?
in the beginnig of the movie you can see a few hazard signs in the container where the box is:
An X sign (‘HARMFUL’) and the one for FIRE(‘FLAMMABLE’), both in orange and a LASER RADIATION sing behind the box. these leads may help us to thinking about the hazardous nature of the box or its contence. Through a little light digging on the Interwebs, I’ve discovered that March 13, 1964 (the day the “What’s in the Box” Twilight Zone aired) is also a Friday the 13th. It has been previously mentioned that the YouTube video was posted on a Friday the 13th.
Now, I dunno if there’s any kind of connection there, but there’s some additional circumstantial evidence. Has anyone watched this Twilight Zone episode to see if any further correlations can be drawn, or if it’s just a coincidental dead-end?

I think this has something to do with the game Half Life. There are several points in the movie where they use sound effects straight from the game. The guys with the suits that chase the guy have voices of the Combine; they are also carrying what appears to be the pistol and SMG that are found in the game too. The thing in the sky (I presume to be a portal) is exactly like the portal the Combine use to come to Earth in the game too. When he is rummaging for a phone on the bus, you hear the news in the background talk of an “infection”, which is also reminiscent of the Headcrabs found in Half Life and it’s sequels to turn you into a zombie. On the bus at 3:25 the Brain Computer Interface gives him a view of a structure towering above all the others and the top is red. This is also oddly reminiscent of the Citadel in City 17, also found in Half Life 2, which was evacuated just like the city this takes place in, also due to the Combine portal. Also, on the Babel Research website (http://www.babel-research.eu/?about=about) there is a list of names with some pretty intense science mentioned there, like Geomagnitism and Quantum Mechanics. It should be mentioned that, Gordon Freeman, the person you play as in Half Life, was a scientist and was the one that opened the first Combine portal by mistake. (I think, I never played the first one all the way through.) But at the bottom of the page there are 3 logos. The one in the middle (the blue circle) is the Aperture Science logo, characterized in the game Portal produced by Valve (Who also makes the games Half-Life and Half-Life 2), but is also seen in various places in the Half Life 2 campaign.
As for the strange box, it was never in a previous Half Life game, or any Valve game for that matter. It is still a mystery. But I think it somehow has something to do with the portal.
That is just a few things I’ve noticed. I think all of this has to do with the release of a new Half Life game or movie or something like this. It could very well be the long awaited Half Life 3.
Suntriker, see my appendage to the disclaimer above. Yes, we know there are references to the Halflife and Lost universes, but these are borrowed references. This entire production was made by a fan of these properties, admittedly so, and there are also clear disclaimers in the production videos and sites themselves that this is a grassroots production. It’s not official promotional material for any upcoming Halflife or Lost media. Until that happens, until there’s announcement or deal struck or something changes, that’s the way it is. Not coincidental – definitely intentional – but not official.
For all the comments saying “how could you say it’s not connected?” – I’m not saying it’s not connected. I’m saying it’s not officially connected. Big difference. Fan fiction is all about expanding on existing property inasmuch as the law allows. This production is based on existing property. That is all at this point.
Suntriker, Bruce said the most important. But I would add some informations, like the ones at the Babel Research site. That can be a portal, but it has a different source. That tower is a blackhole solar energy converter, with no direct relation to Black Mesa and it’s experiments, and the original portal from Black Mesa that Gordon opened (not accidentaly, gman planned everything) was caused by a overcharge of xen energy concentrated on a xen superpure crystal causing a superbridge to the xen world.
However, the story seem to be similar, something went wrong and caused a lot of radiation and a supermass, possibly a portal supermass. So it could be connected with the Half-Life universe, but it’s outside the essential, it’s has not shown any direct relation to gordon freeman, black mesa, gman, alyxs or something else, other than the icons and soundtrack, which Timsmit probably used to avoid having to create his own.
I believe Timsmit will make a lot of references to the Half-Life universe on his upcoming film, but What’s in the box is another story, his story. It was the Half-Life references that made his “demofilm” so popular, so he’ll not leave them.
But now that he’s so famous, Valve could help him in many ways, one of them would be inserting real facts from the HL universe that weren’t revealed in his movie, or simply giving money.
That’s it, this comment should help the ones that don’t know that much from What’s in the box and/or the Half-Life universe. I could make a post of this… :)

Hmm… in the news report, the first segment is from August 6th (the august sixth incident). However, the second part (the part from the “test” video, with the person running around) is from August 8th!!! The incident we have seen was not the August 6th incident?
Wakukee, you gave me an great idea. Firstly, those who played HL2 know that somewhere it the middle of the game Gordon Freeman and Alyx find the dr. Mossman and soon escape from Nova Prospect (is it? I forgot) using teleport. But something went wrong, and they travelled in time on about 2 or so days. Secondly, when I was reading about WITB movie in the internet, I found some pages telling me that hero in the beginning of the movie wakes up and doesn’t know what is going on. That unconfirmed fact was embarassing me until now. When I read some info and watched the movie again the only thing that was making me think that this fact is false is that bottle which can be seen on the floor in the beginning. But if this fact is true, than we have possibility of time jump! I mean that in august 6th, something went wrong and before people was evacuated, that man was captured by random portal (like in the Half-Life, it was called “portal storm”) while he was walking somewhere with that bottle in his hands. And then, with this 2 days, whole city was evacuated and that man appeared in the same place, but in the “wrong time”, I mean he travelled in time for 2 days forward. And now militaries are looking for something, maybe for lost people. But now I think that something is wrong with them. Why that man was trying to escape from them? Why those militaries had weapons? Why they wasn’t trying to stop him using anything but weapons and helicopter (like, shout somehing)? Why they are need for this box? Why they couldn’t find that box for 2 days? Why they was walking around in the city which soon supposed to be destroyed (but not by them i mean)? And so on. Sorry for my bad english, I hope all of you guys understood me right.

I do not know if anyone else has noticed that in the second video, when you click on the “Due to recent developments, the box must remain closed, etc” it links you to a second video, the one with the bloody noses, and the explosion. If you look closely, when the bird falls there are two frames with green squares in them, if you pause it in the first frame two of the squares are red while the rest are green, and in the second frame, one is red and one is purple while the others are green. Some one should look into this, maybe.

I tried to see if the UPC one could be translated in code 93 or 128 which include letters but failed. It currently matches perfectly only the UPC standard so I think those numbers are indeed important and thus the wrong check digit.

Wait!! I found something very interesting. While looking at the source for the second video with the nose bleeds and dead birds, there were two scripts. When reloading an hour later, they both just disappeared. There were a bunch of comments, but the two that seemed to mean the most were two wrappers for functions labeled KIA August and KIA September, and also “TODO: Use HTTPS over HTTP headers.”

Hi I was doing some research on this stuff the other night.
I did some searches on TIMSMIT and found a webpage for the guy who created the video and webpages with that thibaut Niels guy.
On his website it says that it was a trailer for a full length halflife 2 video they are making.

Does anyone know if Valve has issued any statements on the use of HL2 sounds and the very similar aesthetic in the movie? The disclaimer seems insufficient for such heavy borrowing of sounds and similarity of designs and ideas in a film that’s making such huge waves.
Not only that, but it seems odd that it boasts itself as an original concept with all of these similarities, and yet makes a nod to Valve by putting the Black Mesa and Aperature logos on the Babel Research site.

More relation to the HL2 universe is throughout the video the camera glances at the tower three times, each time some sort of crawling tentacle-like thing is creeping up the three towers. In HL2 when on the platform going to the top of the Combine Citadel there’s all sorts of tubes and junk. Could this be some sort of link between HL and HL2? It would make sense that this happens after HL because of the relation to an infection. Maybe Babel is building off of Black Mesa’s research on portals and they accidentally open the universe the Combine come out of. Aperture Science fits into this as well. This idea of portals is becoming a theme.

Look at the top pair of arrows on the JPG image, and then look at the middle pair of arrows on the GIF image (of the box). They line up in angle pretty well. And the length of the line down from middle-most point of the box (2-d-wise) down to the bottom-most corner is just about exactly the same length as the distance between the arrows (along the heavy red line) on the JPG image, so perhaps they can go together as well…
TimSmiT put out a new video, for a Netherlands’ band called Daybroke. Within the video there are all sorts of WITB references, including the object the girl carries through out the video being the very box.
At times 1:29, 2:22 and 3:15, you can see spots (the first and third being the hardest to catch.) with a the iconic WITB red diamond icon, with a question in it. Under it, there’s ??:??, in each instance.
Taking the hint from 1:43 and 1:44 in the video – the WITB poster, with the time on it (which changes from 1:43 to 1:44) and the clue in the ‘more info’ section about finding the right time to find more box – paired with a flash that shows at 3:27 – showing “http://babel-research.eu/ {1/3} / {2/3} / {3/3} .html” will give you a link to a new video.
I’m not giving the ‘solution’ away, though, if you pay attention it’s pretty easy.

Taking a closer look at this picture [ http://babel-research.eu/images/Babel_complex_1.jpg ], I found what I think is the Babel Complex logo on the building. Someone may have commented on this before, but this logo is similar to the logo of the Black Mesa Research Facility from the video game, Half-Life.
Now, connecting this with the storyline of the Half-Life series, and the supposed date of the video’s event, this must mean that this event took place after the fall of the Combine (to be continued in Half-Life 2: Episode 3 and beyond), or this facility was made by the Combine.
At the end of the new footage it says MMX, these could be roman numerals which would be 2010. Maybe it’s the release date?

Me and a friend of mine have been talking and we think that in the “Daybroke – Hey Girl” video. The thing she picks up on the street is not a camera. We think it’s the “Box” it self. 48 sec into the video you see her eyes change color. You can notice in her right eye a light red circle comes out. And on the left a very, VERY faint circle can be seen.
If you take a look at one of the newspaper reports
, when clicking the right segment of the ring, you can see the u.e.c. logo. Another piece of paper has two rings,
one bigger than the other.
I don’t know if it has any potensial, but on the same page, on the piece of paper in the upper right corner there’s a ring. Also the text on it: Nachtmer. I googled it and found out that it means nightmare on dutch.

Sure, Half Life is referenced many many times, along with HL2′s sound being used in the film. But this doesn’t have Valve’s signature on it. You can always tell what’s Valve’s and what’s not.
Besides, Valve has both Black Mesa and Aperture Science. Why would they need Babel?

If you’re still looking for clues in the barcode, the numbers in hex turn out to “PtP” (Peace through Power), so it doesn’t really mean anything special.
Also, No one seems to have pointed out that the two news videos have conflicting dates. The “entire city quarintined” one says 6-8-18, but the “Millions Dead” story says AUGUST 8TH… two days after the initial accident. Both these videos appear in the original teaser, so is it a mistake? It can’t be 2 days at once.

I checked it myself; and noticed that there’s something that looks like text under the box, but it’s very blurry and I don’t know how to make it more clear than it is. Is there a way to enhance it?

Do you think it has anything to do with What’s In The Box? Someone on Unfiction e-mailed Tim Smit about it and he said that the person did a good job and to keep looking. What does everyone think?
Just had a thought. According to some people, I’ve heard that in portal 1, when you move the radio’s around rooms, you can pic up secret messages. This is from a recent update to the game. It might have some connections.
Has anyone actually tried to read what’s written behind the box on the anti.gif? It /looks/ like it’s discussing the change from solar energy to anti-matter energy. The mathematics of it look like they hold up as well, but the end result (1.06066) looks to me anyway, like a reference to Prince Rupert’s Cube. On the same token, there are quantum physics references as well, so perhaps The Box uses a solar conversion method to power itself, in effort to contain another dimension and possibly allow transport to and from said dimension?

I’m digging through the source engine GCF files, and in the sounds, there is the “62 long” audio clip, but forward. The file is alarms62.wav, so it’s probably not “62 long” but “62 alarms” I’ll keep looking through the files for any more similarities.
I am curious to know if anyone else has noticed that on the anti page, when you change the contrast and separate the images, there is invisible text that is reversed, and can only be revealed through contrast change. Also, the picture in the warning picture of Plank, and Einstein, lead me to believe that it has to do with the quantum theory because they met to discuss the use of light and protons. I tried to do what research I could with radiation and there theories because of the radiation level shown at the beginning of the original film.

Hi there, i was visiting tomsmit.info and wacthing the video with the phonebook myth and at the end, this error occures in the clip : “CAVIStream Synth: System Exception – Access Violation at 0x27df7b1, writing to 0×0 ” I can’t remember if it’s the same exact line because i couldn’t access the site for some reason. I know this is a video conversion error [divx x268 or whatever, i just googled it] but it seems it’s embedded in the actual video, and must be one of tim’s misterious clues , hopefully. Has anyone noticed the the BSC ( http://babel-research.eu/?about=research_bsp ) is the only thing NOT seen in the video clearly, you can see the CBI (If you can’t see it you might want to get a new monitor, or your eyes checked) and the ISD is used to take out the cop guys in the bus…. well, I guess that the outer area is a small BSC sending power into the center starting the circle…

The text behind the graphic in the anti.jpg picture is an article on a type of solar cell. It is repeated a couple of times, for filling the background I guess.
There is one alteration to the article and that’s the yield percentages of the solar cell described in the article.

SUGGESTION: Does anybody know any more advanced methods of steganography? And if so, try to decode as many pictures as possible using those? Just look on wikipedia Steganography for a reference how well can a message/image/file be hidden in a picture.

This is a little far fetched but I am still posting it any way I am referring back to both my previous comments. I think that a SAGA is some sort of alien and the box is it’s device this would explain how babel has to search for it and no evil sagas probably means there are good and bad sagas. Or maybe the box is the saga alien/aliens or it contains an evil saga. I think this explains a few things but I say again this is rather far fetched.

Ok i don’t know if this has been said yet, but i can’t find anything referencing it yet, so here it goes.
There are multiple items in the film and the babel research website that are Half-Life 2 related. For those who don’t know what Half-Life 2 is, it’s a very mysterious in story video game that, much like the first half-life, puts you into the shoes of a scientist, named Gordan Freeman, who worked in an underground facility named Black Mesa (1st TIE-IN: The Black Mesa logo is placed on the bottom of the main page of the Babel-Research website). Black Mesa’s main project was being worked on by you, Gordan Freeman, to accomplish various different outcomes, but something bad happens and before you have a chance to stop the project entirely, the project goes haywire and causes a rift, or portal, to a world of aliens/monsters to be unleashed into our world.
Sorry about the way i’m wording all of this, im not the best summarizer :-P
*SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT BEATEN HALF-LIFE 1* At the end the first game, after you defeat the source of what was controlling the monsters/aliens *Or so you think…..* you finally get introduced THE MAN, who looks like your average “large firm” business worker, who you see through out the game, that tells you all the events you have just went through were a test to see if his advisors were really interested in giving you a job to work for them. By you, the gamer, deciding to play the 2nd game, you decide to take the offer and work for THE MAN and his business partners.
Now this is where more of the references come into play.
In beginning of the 2nd game you get an ire wake-up pep talk by THE MAN and get “placed” into an area not like Black Mesa. You have no idea what the time period is, but know that it has be a good amount of time after the first game because the weapons you see in the game and the technology is nothing in comparison to what you saw in the first game. The place that you are in is called City 17 and it’s where the game takes place the whole time (2nd TIE-IN: Everything from the abandon cars, to the urban/dutch looking houses and apartments you see in the the Test Film, look like City 17). As you continue on to observe the city, you see how the society is mistreated by the authority in the game, called The Combine, and that the population diminishes drastically every day. The Combine, at first, look like your average humans in a authoritative outfits, but then you start to see the rest of the Combine and you get to see these giant tripod looking warmachines that are very organic and alien looking in many ways, and the flying machines are the same way. It’s quite interesting. Every noise you hear the Combine make in the game, soldiers and organic machines, are heard the “Test Film” (3rd TIE-IN: The noises you hear from the men in white, the flying vehicle, the gun shots, and most of the loud speaker phrases spoken in the film are all from Half-Life 2).
The last two references i noticed were the tower with the storm above it and the logo at the bottom of home page of Babel-Research website, known as Aperture Science. The tower resembles alot of the main structure in the middle of City 17 that houses all of the combines projects and warmachines. In Episode 1 of Half-Life 2, you see this tower in a fragile state as a rift appears over the top causing a storm, if you will, tearing apart various key components of the foundation that could cause a catastrophic event to happen (4th TIE-IN: The event we were about see at the end of the film right before it ended resembles a lot of the same idea). And finally the Logo. The logo is from 2 games actually, but are related in some ways. Towards the end of Episode 2 of Half-Life 2, you figure out that there was a competing company with Black Mesa, known as Aperture Science, that had a science vessel/Ship that got lost in a undisclosed Arctic location that had unimaginable technology the company Aperture Science created. The logo is also from a game called Portal. The whole game you are a test subject in Aperture Science Main Facility. At one point you can see that Aperture and Black Mesa were competing with each other. Portal was made also by Valve who made the Half-Life games (5th TIE-IN: The logo can be found on the bottom of the main page of the Babel-Research website).
Sorry for the long read, but I felt giving a little knowledge with the references I found would be helpful. So, that being said, my question to anyone who can shed some insight in this is, “Were the similarities between the film, it’s websites and the Half-Life games unintentional? and if they were intentional, Was the point of the film supposed to be a bridge between Half-life 1 and 2?” Just something to ponder…
PS: The film is awesome! :-D Hopefully it can become a full feature film.

You made it a little bit clearer, but answer to your question is I would say NO. Why? This film is not by Valve (nor is somehow supported by them) – the only way this would be a bridge would be a fanmade bridge. Also – as you said, if it were a bridge, it would have to include many years… Finally, WITB (or at least the test film) is already inside the City 17, therefore AFTER HL1… This catastrophe coming in WITB might look similar to the one in HL, but I think it is a different one, somehow related to the box and/or controlled by it.
I suppose Jordan was going to say “Was the point of the film supposed to be a bridge between Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2 Episode One?” If so – then I think that similarities were intentional and film IS supposed to be a bridge. BUT IT’S NOT HL.
Obviously, people recognize many of the film’s references to the Half Life saga. It’s plain as day and right in everyone’s face, but what i want to know is to what in Half Life is the film referring to?
My theory is it has to be the beginning of the initial portal storms, invasion of earth by The Combine, and the resulting Seven Hour War.

This war is only mentioned in passing during the Half Life saga, but it is the turning point of the human race in the Half Life universe.
As is mentioned in the article on CombineOverWiki, after Gordon Freeman (the main protagonist) defeats Nihilanth, leader of the Xen aliens, he is put in stasis by the G Man. The G Man claims that if he hadn’t done this “all the effort in the world would have gone to waste”, hinting that his emplyers wanted Gordon to be saved from the destruction that was about to happen.
The Seven Hour was, in short, a brief conflict where The Combine defeated the forces of Earth in only 7 hours.
This war resulted in the enslavement of mankind, the creation of the suppression field(a field making all humans on earth sterile) and Earth’s assimilation in the Combine Empire.
The footage in the original video “What Is In The Box?” shows what looks like a portal storm above the three towers. A portal storm is an event that creates multitudes of portals to other dimensions. These portals cause havoc wherever they hit.
The Combine may have learned about Earth through Portal Storms, and used these storms to invade Earth.
My advice : look up the portal storm scene from Half Life 2: Episode 2, and watch it carefully. Then, watch the “Last Footage” video and see how the two waves of energy are extremely similar in form.
This, among with the huge number of references to Half Life, leads me to believe that this is the story of what happened after the Black Mesa incident, and the beginning of the Seven Hour War.

Still – WITB is going to be a full-feature movie sponsored (or whatever) by Hollywood something… It is nice as an inspiration and a setup place, but not the real story – such a giant movie would never be good with copyrights and stuff from Valve.

Viewing the source code of the main Babel Research page shows “other.gif” along with the 2 other “schrodinger.gif” and “hanso.gif” already mentioned.
This “other.gif” contains two logos, only one I know off (the blue tesselated circle) which is one of the Aperture science logos, might be hinting at the release/link with Portal/Portal 2 – as I don’t know how long this “other.gif” has been available to view.
Maybe were gonna get a new video at the release of portal 2? or the next installments footage will take place at Aperture Science? Is the installation the guy is first in actually Aperture science labs?

When I watched the ‘Hey Girl’ movie on youtube I noticed that the girl said something at the begin of the clip. I changed the pitch and speed of the song and then I could hear what she said. Which was in Dutch: ‘Kijk eens aan’ in English: ‘Hey, look at that’ Also there was a voice in the background which is from the girl behind her who says: ‘Niet oppakken’ English: ‘Don’t pick up’. Might have been mentioned but in regards to the two truck when you mix coke and mentos you get a chemical reaction in the right container capable of causeing an explosion could the be a hint towards the myth busters coke and mentos video???
Don’t know if this was really looked at because of the numbers code in the “Hey Girl” video, but from 2:58 to about 3:07, while she’s tripping out, it looks kinda like the stuff from the Last Footage video where thing start floating up toward the ??? and swirling around.

I was looking at the http://www.whatsinthebox.nl/pro.swf (posted by Bart if it wasn’t originally his post then I thank who ever posted it) and I noticed that when you move your mouse over the thing box in the middle some of the letters in the credit thing are blanked out so I took a screen-shot and those numbers/letters that are changing all the time clearly spelt out “READ” so I read and this is what I got but its just gibberish

I think I know what the box is made of. But before I tell you, Matthew, That was the backstory, if you watch till’ the end, the tower explodes. Anyway. The box is made of black solar cells! I remeber one comment on this that tells about the writings on somthing about converting solar energy to somthing else, and the black solar cell ISN’T seen oviously in the video, only the Brain image thing, and the sound thing! (haven’t watched in a while)
Isn’t this a sound theroy, that whatever’s in the box, is powered by the sun? That would explane the big case it’s in!

I don’t know if anyone found this yet..But in the Daybroke video at roughly 2:49 by the truck to the right hand side, you can see the word Palindrome. Which means a word can be read both forward and backward…such as TimSmit.

The order to click dots on Babel Research site didn’t work for me, so I rechecked filenames for dots and came up with this sequence:

-Tornadoes and you video, near the end there is a tank labeled Benthic Petroleum. Could be an Easter egg however it seems out of place seeing that kind of equipment should be found on oil rigs or under the ocean. There is also a facebook page for it with a handful of pictures. Could also be nothing but might be worth a look.
On the http://www.timsmit.info/ site find the link to video “The Phone Book Myth” and towards the end (I did not see how to show time codes) right after they show the subtitle “Yes indeed.” the video goes black and a red diamond with a red question mark flicker on the screen with the text “www.WHATSINTHEBOX.nl” underneath. The video goes right back into the story.
Then a little later as they are wrapping their explanation, the video goes to a black screen with a repeating high pitch grating noise and the red letters at top:

The video comes to an end after about 27 seconds of the noise / black screen.

I’ve just noticed that whatsinthebox.nl and http://www.babel-research.eu are showing the same strange information, there’s new (I hope so) logo of Babel Research and something under it but I can’t read. Number of article and paragraph excluding 22 are just inverted (18.5.4.9.22 and 9.4.5.18), it would be palindrome too if 8 will take 1′s place. It looks we’re waiting for 2.15.24 fole to be done. Besides that Hanso Foundation’s site is down. I hope that’s something new. Sorry for my bad english but I’m still learning.

Seems to be a stop error.
The new site design has just been brought to my attention as a result of a Team Fortress 2 update that also brought my attention to two items, “What’s in the Sandvich Box?” and “What’s in the Companion Square Box?”.
Now you probably already know that the Sandvich is another item in TF2 and the Companion [Cube] is an object in the game Portal (By the same developers), and items like this arn’t uncommon, but the name “What’s in the X box?” just sort of stood out to me.
Oh, these items were added on July 10th, well after the new site was discovered on May 5th.

Haven’t looked forward to this since a while… So, today I entered this website, didn’t find anything interesting and started looking by myself. When I got tired (lol), i proceeded to search “whatsinthebox” in google. This website is what i found (apart from the others): http://whatsinthebox.me/
It’s a band’s web, nothing special. After looking for a while i saw this: http://whatsinthebox.me/question%20mark.swf Does this look familiar to you?
After that, I didnt find anything until I started clicking every pic on the page, when I found that, if you click this image: http://whatsinthebox.me/images/ob-ufo.jpg , it redirects you to a “private party” page , to which you are invited. Didn’t find anything in the font codes after that, just some other bands webs (casually, one of those two bands web has the same style than Whatsinthebox.me). Hope this is useful or has something to do with all this research… I don’t know if its worth something tough.

It was in a old lock and key box, the box was won over the internet, the box was shipped, then received, after which he opened it to a deck of cards box, after opening it he received $120, and a card labeled 4 of spades.
So now everytime you enter to whatsinthebox.nl it says some warning that it wont continue or something, does anybody knows what happened ? was the box opened ?
As of today, October 24th 2013, nothing else seems to be new. I simply wanted to place a google point for searches here. Let’s hope this ARG continues in the future.
